I am a native of Galway and prior to becoming a psychotherapist, I spent many years working as a music director and pianist. I studied piano from a young age and continued my music education into second and third level both here in Ireland and in the UK, culminating in a Masters in Performance Health & Personal Development at the London College of Music. Indeed, it was my engagement in this master’s programme that sowed the seeds for where I find myself today. My curiosity in the health and wellbeing of musicians and performing artists led me to seek out a course that would allow me to delve into the subject matter in greater detail.
I had a very charismatic and supportive course leader who felt that I would be well suited to treating performers for issues such as performance anxiety. But a move back to Ireland was imminent after I qualified and I realised that I had some aspects of my own life to explore before I contemplated occupying the therapists chair. Thus, not long after returning, I began my own personal journey into psychotherapy that proved immensely beneficial and truly transformative. I subsequently enrolled with the Tivoli Institute in Dun Laoghaire to undertake their MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy. This too was a most challenging and rewarding experience. Since graduating I have based myself in the heart of Galway City and am currently a pre-accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
